Thank you for visiting our site. Writing My Turn on the Couch was part of Carol Alimenti’s bucket list.  It started out as a Caringbridge journal and a way to keep folks apprised of our son Chris’ treatments. Subsequently, it was transformed into a journal of our family’s journey through ten years in the fight against cancer. The process of reading, reviewing, and editing our book has become a cathartic and tangible method for us to remember and honor Carol and her blessings to us, allowing wonderful memories to resurface in laughter and tears. My Turn on the Couch has not only been a review of this period of our lives, but also a realization that, with God’s grace, we can continue forward. We found peace and love in the midst of trials, and witnessed the beauty of the human spirit. We saw the intrinsic good of so many people. We are so thankful for the doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, family, coworkers… all the people in so many aspects of our life who have dedicated themselves to the service of others. In addition, it amazes us that through these illnesses, we have found deeper relationships and connections with people that may not have otherwise formed. Writing and rereading this work has become a source of comfort and peace for all three of us.

As with so many others, we never received the manual of life! We scoured the internet, libraries, and beyond to find examples of others’ anecdotes as to what lay ahead, but our search was in vain.  It was Carol’s wish that this book, her experiences and ours would comfort others who are on a similar journey, and it is our hope, too, that this story will touch and soothe you in some way.
